The application of PVD coatings to the surfaces of mechanical transmission components such as gears and bearings allows for smoother operation with less noise and heat generation. This is due to the fact that PVD coatings can significantly reduce friction, lower energy consumption, increase efficiency and reduce wear caused by friction. In addition, PVD coatings increase the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and hardness of gears and bearings, thereby extending their service life.
Specifically for the application of high-speed and heavy-duty gears, PVD coating establishes a gear coating contact mechanics calculation model by analysing the flash temperature distribution of gears and its distribution characteristics and main influencing factors, combining with the actual loads of gear teeth, and simulating the interfacial bonding layer of the coating-substrate structure with a nonlinear spring unit. The effects of PVD coating type, coating thickness and load size on the stress distribution and failure form of the coating were studied by numerical analysis methods, which further optimised the performance and service life of the gear.
